This rust is extremely active and will increase the corrosion by producing more and more rust, which in severe cases can consume the good metal surface. This steel gives extremely high strength in the hardened condition. It's very well known for abrasion and wear resistance. Some of these particular square bars contain increased carbon content so shouldn't be welded with.
