Stainless steel square bar is in fact an alloy metal, with 11 percent chromium mass. Stainless steel square bars rarely ever stain, corrode, or rust as can be a downside of other metals, although this doesn't mean to say that stainless square bars are stain proof.

Stainless steel square bar can be know as corrosion-resistant steel when an alloy type isn't listed (mainly aviation industry). There are many different surface finishes available for stainless steel square bar which will suit any condition it's used for. Stainless steel square bar if you need a stainless square bar with the attributes of steel and a strong resistance to corrosion the the Speed Alloys Stainless Steel Square Bar will be the best choice for you.

Stainless steel square bar slightly differs from carbonated steel (measuring by amount of chromium content). Carbon steel will rust when exposed to air or moisture. This rust is extremely active and will increase the corrosion by producing more and more rust, which in severe cases can consume the good metal surface. Stainless square bars have enough chromium to produce a protective passive film of chromium oxide that will prevent surface corrosion, this also blocks corrosion from spreading radiate through to the metal's internal structure.

As described above, Ferritic stainless steel square bars will commonly contain about 11% chromium. They're inexpensive and do not contain a trace of nickel. This type of stainless steel square bars are also magnetic.

Austenitic stainless steel square bars have 18% chromium and about 8% nickel. This is a metal family which is non-magnetic, this is an advantage in many situations, most commonly in marine apps where unwarranted magnetic force will confuse compass and direction finding tools.

These stainless steel square bars are better at maintaining strength under high temperatures. An improvement is definitely noticable in weldability as is corrosion resistance, and with less that 2% molybdenum, corrosion resistance is drastically improved.

Martensitic stainless steel square bars contain 11.5% chromium, usually with zero nickel content but around 0.15% - 0.4% carbon content. This steel gives extremely high strength in the hardened condition. It's very well known for abrasion and wear resistance. Some of these particular square bars contain increased carbon content so shouldn't be welded with.
